Whole Wheat Bread
One of our favorite things we offer is our "Award Winning, Blue Ribbon Whole Wheat Bread". It has won 1st place at the Ozark Empire Fair for 3 years in a row! We grind the grain the morning the bread is made and never sooner. This guarantees you the freshest bread possible. For your health and ours, we do not use hydrogenated vegetable shortening to grease the bread pans (such as the product Crisco). We use 100% organic Palm Oil to grease the bread pans. Each loaf weighs a generous 1.5 pounds and is sliced. The ingredients are as follows: freshly ground wheat kernels, water, molasses, olive oil, yeast, and salt. As you can see, there are no preservatives or processed foods in our bread. We have a rule at our house. "Never eat anything that won't spoil"! Bread made with freshly ground grain has the wheat germ oil in it. Wheat germ oil is very nutritious and highly perishable. The oil begins to go rancid within 72 hours of the grain being ground. Because "true" whole wheat bread is such a perishable product, commercial bakeries must use flours with the wheat germ oil removed (otherwise, their bread would spoil before it ever got to the grocery store shelf). Grocery store "whole wheat bread" NEVER has the wheat germ oil in it. Because our bread has the nutritious germ oil in it, the bread has a "shelf life" out on the counter of about 3 days. It will last nicely for about a week in the refrigerator. This bread freezes very well. Often we will make 20 or 30 loaves for our own use and freeze all but a few. Most people find that once they have tasted the bread, they don't have to worry about it lasting 3 days on the counter. It is usually gone long before then. If my boys are home when fresh bread is being made, 2-3 loaves are consumed in no time at all! The bread is $3.75 a loaf. Please call for directions and to be sure we have what you are coming out for. Thank you!
*Please note: Our bread freezes very well. If we don't have fresh bread when you want to come out, we would be happy to sell you some out of the freezer. We go through it quickly enough, even bread from the freezer is never more than a few days old. Please call for directions and to be sure we have what you are coming out for. Thank you!
